Rot repair, wood stop replication and replacement, head flashing addition, and flashing sill wraps on modern wood windows.

In this instance, The clients hired a company to replace 24 original glass units because the seal had failed and allowed them to fog up. The salesman seemed knowledgable and professional, but when it came time to do the job, two inexperienced, badly trained young men were left unsupervised to do it. They replaced the glass and then re-used the damaged original wood stops without sealing them and some not even nailed in.

Unfortunately, We see this all too often. A home owner will hire “Whatever Glass” and they either don’t know, care, or both how to properly service wood windows. They leave a beautiful window unprotected to take on water and rot. A few years later the window is rotten and needs to be replaced, costing the owner thousands.

Thankfully, the client’s experienced painter noticed the window had problems. Searching for a solution they were referred to us. In this case it was caught soon enough that no further rot had been caused yet by the poor workmanship, however there was existing rot from the dark northern exposure and lack of overhang.

We replaced the wood stops, nailed, sealed, and primed the window. We also repaired the rot we discovered, added head flashings and sill wrap flashings (thin painted steel bent to custom shapes) for all of the windows in the problem area for added protection.
